Logo Draft

For this project, I was supposed to create a logo that represents my blog. My blog is about my journey to becoming an Athletic Director, so it only fit that I add a basketball. I know that my draft looks different then my sketch did. I left out football and baseball. I did this because I wasn’t able to add them without it looking cluttered and unprofessional. I was inspired by most sports teams and brands logos because in sports there is a tendency to make logos that are fairly basic and straight forward. I wanted mine to fall into this category as well.

The significance of me putting a basketball is that basketball is not just my favorite sport, but it is my passion and my dream. I decided to put my name because I am not necessarily advertising a brand, but am advertising myself for a job. My design process began with me researching ideas about how to design a basketball within illustrator which brought me to this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIzMQ8Noso4. I then followed the steps within that video to effectively lay out my basketball logo. I used multiple tools while designing it. The ellipse and line tools proved to be very important in the design. I also used swatches while choosing colors for everything in the logo. Next, I attempted to add more to the logo as I mentioned above but decided on keeping it simple as everything I added made it appear too cluttered. Finally, I added my name in a text box and designed it with the perfect color and font. I think that as a draft the logo looks good. I am interested to see what my peers will think about it, and what they’ll recommend I do to improve it for the final.

  1. This logo looks great and is simple. I love basketball so I can respect a basketball logo. The ball itself looks great, and the lettering also looks just as good, if not better than the ball itself. One critical comment I have is maybe to add a different color background. Maybe a grey or even black would make the ball and the lettering stand out. Another critical comment I have is to maybe put a outline around the ball or a shadow or something easy like that. It maybe would look a little improved with something else, so it isn’t just the ball and the lettering. One area where the logo is strong is the lettering. I think it looks a little bit retro and I love the white stripe in the middle of the blue lettering. It looks great and is an all around solid logo.

  2. I understand the idea of the logo and it is a good one. I like the name at the bottom and the top of the logo, and I enjoy how you only changed it to one sport for now. I also enjoy the highlighted text and how the white is thin with a large border. It attracts the eyes letting them know what type of company it is. One thing I would go and edit before the final is due is; edit the basketball because some of the lines on the ball do not line up like the other side and a basketball should be symmetrical. Other than that, I do not have any other input. I also enjoy how the project is so simple and straight to the point. It’s a great start to the project and I can’t wait to see the end product of this logo will be.

  3. Hi Stockton, I really like your logo design! My favorite part about this is the design is the text font that you used. I think it adds some pop to your design! I did notice that you said you weren’t able to fit the football or baseball because it looked too cluttered and unprofessional; however, I think a way to get around that is to combine them all and have them overlap some. I think that way you can combine the sports you want with it still looking professional and clean. Another thing that I think would make your logo look better would be to curve the text. If you just keep the basketball I think it’d look cool if the text was curved around the basketball and if you add the other sports then I think it might look cool to put the text on top of the design. Other than that, I think your design looks really good!

  4. After reading peoples comments and critiques on my logo I think that there are definitely a few changes that I can make to make sure that my final design really pops. The first is that I am definitely going to curve the text on my name so that it curves around the shape of the ball. I think that this would help to make it look more pleasing to the eye. Another change that I want to make is to add a shadow onto the ball because this will give it a depth effect which will look super cool. I want to make a background to my logo that is either gray or black so that it will really make my logo stand out against it. Lastly, I am going to see if I can find a way to add in a football without making it look unprofessional because this is a touch I would really enjoy having on there. So far I think I have a great start, but I can definitely improve a few things for my final design.

  5. Stockton, I would like to start off by saying I love the sport of basketball as well so, my first initial thought was this was an awesome logo. I like how you incorporated the basketball in your logo and I also like the simplicity of it. I think the simplicity makes it a perfect logo for a website. Two suggestions I might add are choosing multiple sports balls, instead of just a basketball so that you can better describe the position of an athletic director. My final suggestion would be to maybe add some shadowing behind your name so that your letters will be more vibrant. All in all, I really like this logo the base that you have started with this and cannot wait to see what the final edition looks like.
