My entire life I have had a love for sports. From the time I was old enough to play or watch and understand sports, they have been the center of my universe. I would consider myself a sports junkie who will watch any sporting event that is on, my favorites, however, are basketball and football. Once I realized in about 7th grade that I’m probably not going to the NBA I decided that I will have to just work hard on a different path to the league. The conclusion I came to is that my dream job is being an Athletic Director.
I am currently a sport management major with an emphasis in communications. This communications aspect should help me greatly one day as an AD, as I will have to communicate with everybody who I have to hire, such as coaches and trainers. I plan to collect media to use for this course by attending sporting events and taking photos, and by watching sporting events and listening to interviews with real Athletic Directors to see what I can learn from them. I plan to use these interview audio clips as a part of my audio story. I plan to create a logo advertising myself to potential schools to be their AD through the second unit.
Here are a few articles from my inspiration file which have taught me a lot
- https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2014/06/09/In-Depth/Wong-column.aspx – This article by Glenn Wong talks about the path it takes to work in an AD office. He has a lot of great advice which I normally would not have thought of.
- https://www.sports-management-degrees.com/job-profiles/athletic-director/ – This article on Sport Management Career Guide talks about what to expect from this job, such as salary projection, and career outlook stats.
- https://collegead.com/six-interview-questions-every-athletic-director-candidate-asked/ – This is an article that discusses potential questions that candidates for an AD job should be ready to answer. This information is very useful as I can start preparing now for them.
